5 Sites to Find Free PSD Resources for Your Web Designs

Looking for some high-quality PSD resources? Maybe your design skills are lacking and you need some professional-quality elements for the theme you’re making for your blog. Or maybe you need some social media icons. Or maybe you’re just don’t feel like reinventing the wheel again for that login form.

No matter your reason, anyone doing some web design can benefit from some freebie PSDs.

Creattica

Envato’s Creattica site, which is primarily a design gallery slash place to hire freelancers, has a category for downloadable freebies. There’s some good stuff, from icons to textures to audio player skins.

PixelBeam

PixelBeam is largely one guy making some cool graphics (though he seems open to contributions). Everything is free for commercial use, with a few “simple rules” to follow, namely that you link to PixelBeam if you’re sharing the resources and that you properly credit PixelBeam if you use them in a project you intend to sell somewhere like ThemeForest.

Premium Pixels

“Premium Pixels is a bunch of free design resources & tutorials created by Orman Clark. Don’t worry, shameless freeloading is encouraged, feel free to use and abuse at will.” Licensing is similar to PixelBeam. You can do pretty much anything you want with the PSDs, so long as you don’t redistribute them as-is. Attribution is requested for projects you intend to sell.

BittBox

BittBox is a good source for textures, patterns and the occasional Photoshop brush. There are tutorials and the like now and then, too.

Get a Larger Version of a Mac Application’s Icon

Have you ever wanted a large version of an icon, maybe for a software review on your blog? (Or maybe you just want a closer look at the details of the image…) In Mac OS X Leopard or greater, it’s actually fairly easy to do that.

First you want to find the application in the Finder. Right-click it and choose “Show Package Contents.”

A new window will open with a folder named “Contents” inside. Double-click it, and then open the “Resources” folder inside.

WooFunction: 178 Icon Set From WooThemes

WooThemes have released a new freebie icon set in partnership with Liam McKay, creator of the popular Function Icons set. The set is known as “WooFunction.”

WooFunction Icons

The icons seem pretty good to me, and there certainly are a lot of them. The set seems to be more targeted for general user interface use rather than being yet another collection of social media button graphics. (Not that social media icon sets are a bad thing…)

Flavour Extended Icon Set

Smashing Magazine has released a new icon set designed by Oliver Twardowski: Flavour Extended. The set includes 452 transparent PNG icons, along with their respective PSD source files.

The icons are 48×48 pixels in size, and easily shrinkable if you require a smaller size.

Flavour Extended Icons

Overall I like the icons. The Twitter one looks okay, but it’s not my favorite. I like the folder ones a lot, and some of the Apple-themed ones look really nice.

The set has a truly massive number of icons. If you download the set, which is free with no restrictions, be careful you don’t lose any of the icons. :)

A Few RSS Icon Resources

Looking for a good RSS icon for your site? You could go with the standard one, or use a variant that looks similar, without being so unrecognizable people won’t know it’s an RSS button.
