Stack Overflow, Super User, Server Fault: Your Tech Questions Answered

Stack Overflow, Server Fault, and Super User are a set of interesting sites by Jeff Atwood, the blogger behind the Coding Horror blog. Back when Stack Overflow launched in 2008, Jeff described it like this:

Stackoverflow is sort of like the anti-experts-exchange (minus the nausea-inducing sleaze and quasi-legal search engine gaming) meets wikipedia meets programming reddit. It is by programmers, for programmers, with the ultimate intent of collectively increasing the sum total of good programming knowledge in the world.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s sort of like Reddit or Digg, but centered around answering everyone’s questions instead of sharing links. If you want to know the best way to go about doing something in PHP or Python, pose your question on Stack Overflow and watch as you receive at least one thoughtful answer within the half hour.

One Of My Favorite Things About The Internet

Do you know what one of my favorite parts of the internet is?

It’s the community, and their willingness to help people out without anything in return. Sure, the web has it’s fair share of trolls and greedy corporate people, but overall you can just approach someone, say a blogger, ask a question, and get a straight answer.

North X East

Are you a blogger? Whether you’re new to blogging, or you’ve been blogging for years, you should take a look at North X East. Once or twice a week, a nice informative article is posted, going in-depth on a blogging-related topic.

I often find myself waiting anxiously for another article to be posted (much like I do with Smashing Magazine).

W3Schools

In addition to lots of great webmaster tutorials, W3Schools has a message board (my favorite part) where you can request help. When you post a message, whoever wants to help will answer. It may be a bunch of people who have different opinions, though there a few people who do a great job at answering any question you throw at them. If you’re having a problem with your web work (be it HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, or anything else), try asking for help at W3Schools.
