Things have changed a bit since I wrote this.

I’ve since replaced NewsFire with Reeder and Tweetie with the official Mac app for Twitter (which I hope to swap out for Tweetbot once the Mac version is available!). I’m using Sparrow for email, Sublime Text 2 for text editing, and Transmit for FTP. I have Pixelmator, too, since my old copy of Photoshop doesn’t run on Mountain Lion. (I’d have to buy a new copy, preferably a cheaper pre-owned copy, which I’m not quite ready to do.) Maybe I should write a new, updated post one of these days.

Indeed a great collection of apps for Mac. I would also include the PostBox email client, and Coda 2 for web development. Pixelmator also doest a great job for amateur photographers at a reasonable price.

Screenflow was one I wanted to get for a long time, but only recently purchased because it was discounted for a 24-hour period. I recommend keeping an eye on http://MacHeist.com and http://www.mupromo.com/software.php for some great deals once in awhile.

I got RipIt, Espresso and WireTap through a couple of MacHeist bundles.

Great list Matt, wish I had this a few weeks ago when I got my first Mac!

I’m still making decisions on a lot of things in this list. I think Im settled on Espresso for coding, but I had to upgrade from Cyberduck to Transmit just because of how slow Cyberduck was being. I need to use an FTP app almost every day, so I know $35 is a bit, but over the years, the time saved will more than make up for that.

There are other apps I definitely want, but the cost is making me hold off for now (Like Screenflow!)
